Jim Lawson is a favorite of mine, whose skills are amazing. He has the
rare ability to make the turtles very expressive and flexible when it comes
to both movements and emotions, without making them seem too human. This
is also the guy who did the pencils for the entire, 13-issue City At War
series, which is no mean feat! He has an ability to pack a lot of information
into a single page
His drawing style is distinctive. His turtles are
very angular, drawn with straight lines. They could possibly be called “blocky”
if they didn’t exhibit the lightness and even grace that we associate with
the ninjas. His humans and Splinter are drawn with curving lines, making
that distinction between the turtles and those that surround them and affect
their lives more pronounced, even if only in our subconscious.
