One half of the dynamic duo that we know, love and worship, he is one of
the original TMNT artists, and it is incredibly interesting to compare his
earlier comics with those later on, and see how his style has progressed.
He is one of the pair that knows the turtles best, and draws them accordingly.
There is hardly any empty space within his panels, and he fills the page
while keeping the focus upon one individual or group. The drawback to this
is that a panel will sometimes come off as a bit confusing. His style is
what I can only describe as “splotchy”, and conveys the sort of gritty mood
that I associate with the TMNT comics; more specifically, those that take
place in NYC. His turtles are short and muscular, and he uses a lot of round
shapes when drawing them, without making them appear soft in any way. His
experimentation with creative panel layout is fun to read, and keeps the
eye moving. And, I have to say this: he makes his Splinter look very, very
furry!
